(A Wonderful Place to Visit)
The East Sussex - Iron Country area covers the villages between Battle , Northiam ,
Hawkhurst , Wadhurst , Mayfield and Heathfield . This area is rural and very
peaceful with beautiful views across the rolling East Sussex countryside, and has much
History.
The Battle of Hastings was fought at the market town of Battle where you can find
Buckleys Yesterdays World and the Battle Museum . One of the Best kept fairy tale
castles Bodiam Castle which is owned by the National Trust . The 15th
Century house and gardens at Great Dixter are very beautiful and can be found at
Northiam , along with Brickwall House another old manor house. Ticehurst has
Pashley Manor , built in 1262, with its beautiful gardens. Robertsbridge with
its picturesque old high street, has Ripley's Rural Museum displaying old implements
and shopkeepers wares.
The village of Brightling has a number of the Follies built by Mad Jack Fuller .
Heathfield is the northern point on the Cuckoo Trail . The old village of
Mayfield has many black and white wealden buildings and is well worth a visit.
The Kent and East Sussex steam railway will be running Steam Trains between
Bodiam and Tenterden this summer. If you like forests and softly flowing streams,
a visit to Bedgebury Pinetum at Flimwell will keep you enthralled.
