National Pinetum and Forest Gardens
From the main A21 crossroads at Flimwell , turn towards London,travel onto the
dual carriageway, and turn right at the top of the hill near the Radio mast.
The Pinetum is about 2 miles down the Goudhurst road.

Bedgebury Pinetum is the National Conifer Collection, and the finest collection of
conifers in the world.
The area was originally planted by Viscount Marshall Beresford of Bedgebury, an
officer of Wellington at Waterloo. The Pinetum was founded as a joint venture
between the Forestry Commission and the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew. The first
plants were raised in Kew Gardens in 1921, and planted in Bedgebury in 1925 and 1926.
The pinetum is an all year round attraction :-
In Spring wildflowers, rhododendrons and azaleas give blazes of colour.
In Summer a picnic by the lake in the dappled shade under the giant specimens
is a welcome relief from the hot sun.
In Autumn the forest has many colours, due to many recently planted autumn
colouring plants.
Finally Winter, when many of the conifers are at their best.
