Ripleys Museum of Rural Life

contains much of byegone Robertsbridge

Ripleys Museum lies on the old causeway across the Rother Valley flood plain, it can be found by driving down the A21 to the Robertsbridge roundabout, and turning towards the village.
The Museum is about 1/2 mile from the roundabout on the left.
here for the Ripleys Web Site.

The contents of Jack Hook's smithy - the last farrier in the village. Mr Beaney's wheelwrights, Mr Burchett's saddlery, A. Hoad and Sons hop press and other farm byegones. The cobblers shop of Jim Beeden with old Mrs Pantry's boots still to be collected.

The great Victorian range and kitchenalia from a local 19th century house. The Edwardian nursery, a unique collection of 17th century ironwork, and much more are alongside the grocery and hardware shops.

The wonderful Hop press and stilts grace the farm collection with dairy and other farm and country miscellanea from a bygone age.

See the hard work keeping house used to be, from heating the flat irons to filling the stone hot water bottles, from 'mangling' the wet linen and boiling the copper for washing the laundry, even 'hoovering' was a two person job.
