The area has been a farming area for most of its time due to the rich sediments deposited
in the area. Hops were a major industry from the middle of the 19th century , due to the
railways transporting the hops to the local towns for beer manufacture, and therefore the
large number of Oast houses .
The Areas proximity to the major towns of Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone the motorway
network and the trains make it an area where many of the rural villages are now populated
by commuters, who bring wealth into the area.
Take a look through our village pages for more details,
and see what you are missing. There is much to be seen throughout the area, and we believe you will
have an interesting and enjoyable time visiting it.
