Once in a while Microsoft Windows seems to throw a wobbly, and Word
will not start, or crashes with a Dr Watson error. This can also
happen with the Internet Explorer, Excel, Powerpoint and other
Microsoft office components.
There are some simple steps you should take to see if this can be
fixed, before rebuilding your PC.
Here is a question I
have been asked, and the remedy,
which is applicable to most of the above problems.
| Question: |
Merlin,
I am having problems mainly when
online. Windows close mysteriously or open narrow when they
open. Sometimes screen divides into 4 windows. Mouse arrow darts
around screen. Text is selected. Right click menus open,
all without any intervention from me. Any clues?

Carol,
There are a number of reasons that this may occur, so can
you try carrying out the following procedure.
1.
Shut down all programs that you have running.
2.
Right click on [My Computer] and click on [Find].
3. in
the named box type in *.tmp and click [Find Now].
4.When
the find has stopped, mark and delete all the FILES but not the
FOLDERS that are there.
5.
Some will not be able to be deleted, just ignore these, they are
probably system files.
6.
Empty your [Recycle Bin]
7.
Switch off any screen savers you may have
8. Now
Run [Start] - [Programs] - [Accessories] - [System Tools] - then
Scandisk.
9. Run
this on your disk C: with [Thorough] and [Automatically fix
errors] ticked this may take a long time, leave running
overnight. This will check to see if your hard disk is damaged.
10.
Restart the P.C., and then try again.
If this doesn't work, then the problem is probably with the
mouse, but
re-email me and I will offer some other suggestions.
