(Simple instructions to add standard messages to your E-Mails)

Have you ever wondered how to set up you e-mail so that a standard block of text appears at the end of each e-mail you send ?
If you live in the VillageNet area, you could always add the Internet Page Address of your village to the bottom of your e-mail, so the people you e-mail can see where you live.

The following instructions will allow you to set this up on a Microsoft Outlook Express 5 e-mail client.

Basic Configuration

Start up Outlook Express 5 and click on [Tools] - [Options] then the [Signatures Tab].
In the Signatures section click on [New], and a Signature #1 appears.
Under the [Edit Signature] section type in your message.
Ensure that the box which says [Add signatures to all outgoing messages] is ticked and then click on [Apply].

Advanced Configuration

Open up [My Computer] on the desktop, click on drive c:.
Right click in the window and create a new folder.
Rename "New Folder" to EMailSignature.
Go into this new folder.
Right click in the window and create a new text document.
Rename "New Text Document.txt" to "signature.txt".
Open this file, it will appear in Notepad.
Now mark the code below including <html> to </html> and copy it into the file

Now replace where it says [YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS] with your actual e-mail address similar to info@villagenet.co.uk.
And also replace [YOUR PHONE NUMBER] with your real phone number.
These next instructions will allow you to put a link to your village, or favourite web site.
Open up Internet Explorer and go to the VillageNet page containing your village. You can find it by clicking HERE.
When you are at the right page, mark the full address by clicking in the Address bar ensuring the whole line is highlit and then go to [Edit] - [Copy]
Go back to your signature.txt file and paste on top of the [See Step 11] text.
this should now show the full address.
Now replace [YOUR VILLAGE NAME] with the name of your village
And save the file.
Go back to [My Computer] and rename the file signature.htm.
Start up Outlook Express 5 and click on [Tools] - [Options] then the [Signatures Tab].
In the [Edit Signature] section in File now type in c:\EMailSignature\signature.htm then click [Apply] and [OK]
Finally send youself an e-mail to see if it works correctly
