The Area

A Quiet and Peaceful place to visit
The Firehills and Rother Levels area covers the villages between Battle , Fairlight , Rye , Hamstreet , Tenterden and Northiam .

This area is rural and very peaceful with beautiful views from the Firehills, and also has a lot of History, especially smuggling.

The Battle of Hastings was fought at the market town of Battle where you can find Buckley's Yesterdays World and Battle Abbey . The 15th Century house and gardens at Great Dixter are very beautiful.and can be found at Northiam , along with Brickwall House another old manor house. The Kent and East Sussex steam railway will be running trains between Tenterden , Northiam and Bodiam from April 2000.

Rye and Winchelsea are wonderful walled towns famous for their role in the Cinque Ports and smuggling. Tenterden is a beautiful town with its history in the weaving industry, Tenterden Museum and Steam Trains. Brede has its Steam Pumping Engines the Brede Giants .

And if you want the most extensive views of the area, visit Fairlight Church and climb up the tower.

Take a look through our village pages for more details, and see what you are missing. There is much to be seen throughout the area, and we believe you will have an interesting and enjoyable time visiting it.
