(A Quiet and Peaceful place to visit)
The Firehills and Rother Levels area covers the villages between Battle , Fairlight ,
Rye , Hamstreet , Tenterden and Northiam .
This area is rural and very peaceful with beautiful views from the Firehills,
and also has a lot of History, especially smuggling.
The Battle of Hastings was fought at the market town of Battle where you can
find Buckley's Yesterdays World and Battle Abbey . The 15th Century house and
gardens at Great Dixter are very beautiful.and can be found at Northiam , along
with Brickwall House another old manor house. The Kent and East Sussex steam
railway will be running trains between Tenterden , Northiam and Bodiam from
April 2000.
Rye and Winchelsea are wonderful walled towns famous for their role in the
Cinque Ports and smuggling. Tenterden is a beautiful town with its history
in the weaving industry, Tenterden Museum and Steam Trains. Brede has its
Steam Pumping Engines the Brede Giants .
And if you want the most extensive views of the area, visit Fairlight Church
and climb up the tower.
