Cuckoo Trail

A walk through East Sussex to the Coast
The walk starts from the main car park in Heathfield, next to the Fire Station, which is opposite the Co-op supermarket to the West of the town centre.
Further details of the walk are available from the Local Tourist Offices.

here for the Wealden Council Cuckoo Trail Web Site.

The Cuckoo Trail takes its name from the light railway, the Cuckoo Line , which was closed in the early 1960's. The line ran from Eridge to Polegate, through Heathfield , where by tradition, the first Cuckoo of spring was released at the annual fair.

Since its closure, the line fell into disrepair, however after being purchased by the Wealden District Council and East Sussex County Council, it has been transformed into a nationally acclaimed country path for walkers, cyclists, the disabled, and for some of its length, horseriders.

The trail now runs between Heathfield and Polegate , taking in Horam , Hellingly and Hailsham on the way. With beautiful countryside and many sculptures and hand carved seats, the Cuckoo Trail is the ideal attraction for everyone.
