6. Shoyswell and Cottenden

This walk is found on the Ordnance Survey 1:25000 Sheet TQ 62/72 entitled Robertsbridge (OS may have updated) and walkers are advised to have a copy with them on the walk.

Location :- The Rother Valley (between Witherenden Bridge and Etchingham)
Between the villages of Stonegate and Etchingham
Start :- Grid Ref 689283
Distance :- Approx distance - 3.5 miles
Route :- Round walk - Follow the lane south east to the entrance gate of Old Shoyswell. The road is a bridleway south towards Old Shoyswell.

Then go on a loop round by Turzes farm returning to Old Shoyswell and the Manor Farm.

Take the footpath north-west from Shoyswell towards Bearhurst Farm and then turn right onto the Stonegate Road and follow until just before Cottenden.

Turn right (east) back to start near Hillside Farm.
Look out for :- Pleasant views from Old Shoyswell road, the old manor house and wildfowl lake .

Please remember the Country Code and respect for land owners when walking and ensure you have parked your car where it will not be a hazard to other road users.
