5. Stonegate Station Figure of Eight

This walk is found on the Ordnance Survey 1:25000 Sheet TQ 62/72 entitled Robertsbridge (OS may have updated) and walkers are advised to have a copy with them on the walk.

Location :- The Rother Valley (between Witherenden Bridge and Etchingham)
Near the village of Stonegate
Start :- Grid Ref 658272
Distance :- Approx distance - 3.7 miles
Route :- Round walk - Take footpath north-east from Stonegate Station car park past Hammerden to Church Wood Shaws, turn south past ponds towards railway but turn east before line in the direction of Upper Collingtons.

After exiting the east side of the wood proceed to footpath crossroads and turn south towards Burwash .

Cross the railway and turn right (west) onto the bridalway which will take you past Wreckery Bridge back to another railway crossing Hammerden and the station. (Take care both railway crossings are tricky.)
Look out for :- Wildlife at the ponds, deer in Upper Collingtons woodland.

Please remember the Country Code and respect for land owners when walking and ensure you have parked your car where it will not be a hazard to other road users.
