Crowborough SussexCrowborough in East Sussex lies on the A26 Tunbridge Wells to Lewes road. It was only really developed in Victorian times as a resort on the edge of the Ashdown Forest and access was provided by the railway. Prior to that it was an area of heath land only inhabited by highwaymen , smugglers and the odd farmer.

In 1909 Sir Arthur Conan Doyle famous for the Sherlock Holmes novels, moved into Crowborough where he lived till the age of 71. He built Windlesham Manor a large house in which he wrote more novels. He died in 1930 and was buried in his garden, his wife had his remains moved into the family vault in 1935.

The views from all around the area are very rural and pretty, the town is by contrast quite modern and built up.
