Sedlescombe & District Garden Society
(01424)-870765
The Sedlescombe and District Garden Society, now one of the village's most
flourishing groups, grew out of the country's urgent need for people to support
the war effort by growing as much of their own food as possible.
Founded in 1944 as the Sedlescombe and District Allotment Association with
about 40 members, it enabled members to obtain scarse supplies of seeds,
potatoes, lime and fertiliser - all necessary for a reliable supply of vegetables.
The Society is interested in promoting all aspects of gardening and the gardening
environment through the organisation of show competitions, regular meetings and
lectures, visits to places of gardening interest and other relevent activities.
